Intermezzo Choir
The Intermezzo Choir began in January 2020 as an outreach of the Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers. The only known program of its kind in Southwest Florida, serving individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementia. Intermezzo Choir singers, caregivers and volunteers alike have expressed gratitude and joy in having the opportunity to make music together.
Through weekly rehearsals with board-certified music therapist Molly Phillips, the Intermezzo Choir provides a positive social and emotional outlet. Together, the choir works on vocal techniques against the backdrop of both new and familiar music. Active participation, the friendly atmosphere and life-enriching engagement are benefits of the Intermezzo Choir for all singers. Group attendance also allows for some much-needed camaraderie and respite for care partners.
Mission:
To spark memories and create meaningful musical connections for people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as their care partners and volunteers.
“Life is one grand, sweet song… So start the music.” — Ronald Reagan
